The Russian manicure, practised as a discipline.
A private studio in Jacksonville for a dry, cuticle-precise manicure that holds its line for weeks — and hand-painted work you will not find on a menu.
One chair. One client. A quiet room on San Jose Boulevard where the work is measured in tenths of a millimetre rather than in hours.
Tumen Beauty is a single-artist studio. Every appointment is held privately, without overlap, so that the preparation of the nail plate — the part most salons rush — receives the time it actually requires. The result is a manicure with a clean, sealed edge that grows out evenly instead of lifting.
Dry Russian
manicure
Worked entirely dry — no soaking, no softening. An electric file with fine, precisely chosen bits lifts and removes only the non-living tissue at the fold, leaving the nail plate clean to its true edge. Color is then applied closer to the skin than a wet manicure allows, which is why the grow-out reads as narrower and the finish lasts. This preparation is not an add-on — it is how every service in the studio is done, whether you are wearing your own nails or a set of extensions.
What the work is held to
-
01
Licensed and taught
Licensed cosmetologist with nine years spent exclusively on nails, and three years teaching nail technology — including a nail instructor license held in Nevada.
-
02
Product chemistry, deliberately chosen
Luminary Nail Systems, a luxury American professional brand, selected after reading the chemistry rather than the marketing — with the aim of minimising unnecessary chemical exposure for the client.
-
03
One client at a time
No double-booking and no overlap. Implements are sterilised between clients and set out unopened at the start of your appointment.
-
04
Detail as the whole point
The cuticle line, the apex, the sidewalls, the seal at the free edge. These are the four places a manicure fails, and each is finished under magnification.
Artwork, not decals
Painted freehand with a liner brush — script, geometry, negative space and detail small enough that it reads as texture from arm's length. Simple placements are priced from the menu. Anything drawn for your hand and your nail shape is quoted in the chair rather than from a chart.
A manicure should look unremarkable and last unreasonably long.
